Own It
As a child growing up in the 1950s, my earliest influences were the Three Stooges, Abbott and Costello and Laurel and Hardy. I also loved the comedy team of Bing Crosby and Bob Hope. They starred in a series of outrageous comedies: The Road to Zanzibar, The Road to Morocco, etc. I identified with Bob Hope because he was silly, made goofy faces and had amazing timing. I grew up wanting to be the next Bob Hope.
I was always a pretty funny kid. But unlike many children who choose to grow up and act like little adults, I chose to keep my zany and crazy personality. In fact, my comedy timing got better as the years went on. Is it any wonder that I evolved into the class clown in school? Or that I was elected the wittiest kid in my senior high school class?
As an actor, I was a natural. It really didnt matter whether I was playing the nerd, the sidekick or the clown. I owned the role and I owned the stage. I remember a review I received for my role in Alls Well That Ends Well by William Shakespeare. The reviewer stated that, Mr. Stevenson took a peripheral role and turned it into the performance of the evening. And I had, because when it came to acting, I was absolutely fearless.
Many years later, after I left acting and Hollywood behind and I started giving speeches, I found myself experiencing something that I hadnt felt in a long time fear. Every time I got up to give a speech, everything Id learned as an actor and performer disappeared. It was replaced by insecurity, self-doubt and tentativeness.
At first I didnt get it. Having experienced total confidence and absolute fearlessness in acting, it was strange for me to be so nervous in this new context. Then one day it hit me; there was no play, no script, no character to hide behind. As a speaker it was just me: my words, my thoughts, my opinions. There was no place to hide.
Flashback to 1968: I remember sitting at the lunch table in my senior year of high school. There were six of us who always sat together. And more often than not, Id get on a roll and have everyone laughing hysterically with my witty comments and zingers. Even as I was doing it, I knew I had a special talent. Then the bell would ring and wed all rush off to class.
I can still see myself walking away from my friends towards class thinking to myself, That was amazing. I was so funny. I wish I knew how to capture that and do it whenever I wanted to - like Johnny Carson does.
Back then I had no ownership of my talent. It was raw and random and uncontrollable. As a speaker in the early days, I had no ownership of my role as a speaker. I was renting presentation styles and content elements from other people.
But, there was something different that happened when I told a story! The context of telling a story rekindled my acting and my comedy talents. Before too long, my speaker buddies asked if I could teach them some acting and comedy skills. I called my class Story Theater. Looking back on it now, it was a natural progression from actor to acting coach. From being directed, to being the director. And lo and behold, my fear went away.
Teaching Story Theater was intuitive. It was easy and natural. And unlike all of the other presentation styles and topics Id tried on in an effort to be perceived as a credible expert and professional speaker, with Story Theater I didnt have to rent something else. I owned it. Id found my essence and what my area of expertise really was.
For many years, and by way of hundreds of speeches as a professional speaker, I had been working my way back to that state of total confidence and absolute fearlessness. Ive changed topics, let go of material that didnt work for me and moved closer to my core competencies and natural speaking style. Ive evolved forward into a mature and graceful version of the zany, crazy clown that I was as a child and teenager.
Last Friday I gave a keynote to a group of human resource professionals from all over the world, about The Story Theater Method. I was as funny as I used to be in high school, and I realized that I had finally captured what used to be so elusive.
For years, I rented my space as a speaker. Now I own it.
When you step to the front of the room as a speaker or trainer, do you rent the space, or do you own it? Are you renting a presentation style that is a version of your idea of appropriate and professional or do you experience total confidence and absolute fearlessness? Do you hide behind content and PowerPoint? Is your personality stifled by your perception that if you really showed up, you wouldnt be accepted?
That was my fear. It was based in shame and self-doubt. By returning to my true essence, I found freedom. It was hard to trust myself. It was scary. And it didnt happen overnight. It took time, courage and perseverance. I had to try and fail, and try again.
We cannot change the world until we are willing to change. I challenge you the next time you step in front of a room full of people own it. Own your talent, own your style, own the space. Claim it all for your own, with total confidence and fearlessness. Never rent again.
Own it!

The Ever Popular Garrett
Garrett has become a household name in metal detection and security. When the company started out, they had no idea that they will become one of the prime movers in the industry.
The company started manufacturing and selling metal detectors in the early 1960s. Probably one of the reasons they become so successful is that they always had given their customers their utmost priority.
This has been the philosophy of the company ever since: a commitment and loyalty to their customers. They found out that a satisfied customer is the best marketing campaign for their products. With this, the company has tried to ensure that customers receive the best products the best technology has to offer and the best information campaign and customer sales service in the industry.
The Hunter was the first metal detector that Garrett introduced to the public. Through the Hunter, Garrett began incorporating innovation after innovation in their metal detector's designs.
In 1970, the company was the first one to stop oscillator drift. What Garrett did was to place a non-changing frequency crystal into the reference oscillator. This brought great changes in the industry. The company was also the first one to find a solution for eliminating searchcoil drift. These innovations catapulted Garrett to the top.
Garrett Electronics was the first to release a low cost metal detector which it called the Mini Hunter. Then in 1973 the company released to the public the Beat Frequency Oscillator (BFO) metal detector, it was the first of its kind.
Almost every year, Garrett released newer versions of metal detectors or innovations on existing ones. Their research and engineering teams were always working round the clock to come up with newer technology.
Garrett's competitions practically couldn't keep up. Some of the competitor companies accepted their defeat and closed their doors in metal detector manufacturing.
As the word got around, Garrett's detectors became in demand across the nation and even around the globe. Treasure hunters kept looking for the Garrett brand.
In 1984, the FBI asked Garrett to make a walk through detector, a first for the company. This was to beef up security in the Los Angeles Olympic Games. Needless to say, that single event hurled the company to the world of security products.
The already popular Garrett brands became even more recognizable and reliable. It earned a lot of credibility which brought about lots of other opportunities in the security field. And now, Garret has become one of the top quality providers of security products around the globe.

So You Want To Be A Rock Star?
Before climbing on the latest bandwagon to fulfil your dreams of fame and fortune, here a few things to ponder.
Gigging is great fun when you do it once a week. Do it day after day, week after week and it feels just like what it is, hard work! Why do you think so many rock and pop starts wreck their lives with drink and drugs? The answer is that the physical toll of constant travelling leaves them vulnerable. A two hour gig may require 5,10 or 15 hours of driving. Tiring if you do it, boring if someone does it for you.
If you are married or in a steady relationship, do you take your partner with you and, if you do, who is chatting her up while you are strutting your stuff on stage? Leave her at home and just say no to the groupies? Divorce among musicians is the norm.
Fame is short lived, and it seems to be getting shorter every year. Remember Bill Haley and the Comets, The Ventures, Freddy and the Dreamers, The Searchers? They were all stars in their own day but if you are under 50 you probably said, Who? to every one of these. And speaking of the Who, how about them?
The bottom line is that if you cannot stand seeing inferior musicians getting all the glory and you can stand living out of a suitcase, then go chase the dream. If not, look for plan B.
So what is plan B?
Here are B, C and D.
Well you can sell guitars. Learn the business and make your mistakes with someone elses money by working for the man. Get a gig once or twice a week and take all offers to make you a star with a pinch of salt. Eventually start your own shop.
Then there is teaching. Lots and lots of kids want to play like their heroes. You business may take a year or two to grow to full time status, your income will halve during the school holidays and the hours are distinctly antisocial but you spend your working day sitting on a sofa with a guitar on your lap and drinking coffee. How difficult is that?
Finally there is guitar making. For a few hundred you can go on a course to learn the tricks of the trade. Now what would be more satisfying, to have a number one hit and be famous for two weeks or to have your name on the heads of the next generation of iconic guitars for decades to come?

Download Free iPod music
Probably everyone who has an iPod knows how it can be expensive to own such an amazing player. Most of us cannot listen to the same songs over and over again, we need variety, that's why we delete old songs from iPod and put new. But with iTunes charging almost a buck for every song, this is getting very expensive, especially if your iPod has lot's of space.
However, there is a way to download free iPod musicand this is the money saver here. You see, there are certain iPod download services which allow you to download free iPod musicwithout restrictions. They do not have pay-per-download fees, but they have a membership fee, which is around $35, but that's not that really bad, because you pay $35 for a lifetime membership.
The only problem is to choose a perfect download service, which could satisfy all your needs. There are lot's of junk on the Internet and, of course, there are legitimate companies too. But how to pick the one that will save you money, provide the opportunity to download free iPod musicand keep you satisfied?
I discovered the best way to do so, first, you need to find a reputable web site that offers free iPod musicdownloads, second, I suggest you read a couple reviews, before you join, and third, make sure that the iPod download service has a money back guarantee, which will make it risk free for you.
Personally, I have tried, well over six different iPod download services. And only one of them could deliver what it actually claimed on the front page, this is why I would like to recommend it for every iPod owner. You can download free iPod music, free videos, TV shows, movies and games.
They are the best at everything, download speeds are at my maximum, support is very friendly and responsive, it is very easy to use and navigate, also there are many amazing bonuses you get when you sign up. So if you really want to download free iPod music, it's a must have and you can read about it more if you want at my blog.
I hope this helped and you know how to download free iPod musicnow, good luck!
Earl Bennett is addicted to downloading free iPod music and loves his 60GB video iPod. He runs a personal blog where he shares his thoughts on various iPod download services.

Crib Safety
There are times when your baby will be unattended in his crib, so it is absolutely essential to make the crib area into a totally safe environment. Here are some important tips:-
1. New mattresses typically come covered in plastic wrapping material be sure to remove it all to avoid the risk of suffocation.
2. It is best to use a zipper cover for the mattress. If you decide to cover the mattress with heavy plastic, make sure it fights tightly and can not be dislodged by the child.
3. Check the crib for rough edges or sharp points on the metal parts. Look for any cracks and splinters in the wood. And don't just do this checking once, but regularly.
4. When your baby learns to sit up, lower the mattress in the crib to a level where the baby can not fall out either by leaning against the side or by pulling herself over it.
5. When your baby begins to stand, the mattress should be set at its lowest level. A common way for babies to fall is by trying to climb out, so make sure that can't happen. You will need to move your baby to another bed when he is 35 inches (89 centimetres) tall, or the height of the side-ral is less than three quarters of his height (whichever is sooner).
6. When your child can pull up to a standing position, remove any toys, pillows, or crib bumpers that are large enough to be used as a step for climbing out.

Food Dehydrators - Why You Need Them
There are few things worse than opening your lunch box on a camping trip only to find your food spoiled. A food dehydrator can save you from this situation it works better than a cooler and is lighter than a portable refrigerator. Read on to understand how they work and get some tips on buying them.
But first, how do food dehydrators work?
Heat plus moisture the perfect formula for ruining perfectly good food can be your worst enemies on outdoor trips. Food dehydrators work by removing moisture from food by heating them at 140 degrees Farenheit.
You can get food dehydrators at most appliance centers or department stores from $50 to $350. You dont need a high-end food dehydrator for camping, but it does have to be light, efficient, and simple to use.
Here are some of the features to look for:
1. Double wall construction
Food dehydrators heat up quickly on the outside, and they can burn you if youre not careful. To stay safe, choose a food dehydrator with a double wall construction an extra layer on the outside for insulation to hold the heat in and protect you from burns.
2. Horizontal design
Food dehydrators have their heating elements either at the top and bottom or at the sides. Horizontal dehydrators have several advantages, including better heat penetration and easier maintenance. You can dry different foods at a time on separate trays, so that the flavors dont mix and the juices dont drip onto the heating element (because cleaning out food stains can be a drag).
3. Timers
An automatic timer is a great feature if you like to multitask or tend to forget things easily. The timer lets you program the machine to shut off after a preset drying time, so you dont burn your food even while youre away. You can set the drying time yourself, or just select one of the presets on the machine.
More information on food dehydrators is available in Picky Guide, which contains thousands of free, high-quality product information for picky consumers.

What To Do When Windows Won't Boot
When Windows fails to boot it is normally caused by you installing a program or device and it has caused a conflict with one or more other programs.
This will no doubt give you plenty of heartaches if you're not certain which program caused Windows to not boot up.
If you recently installed a program or application and know where it was installed, you may be in much better shape as for as correcting the error.
Here are common ways to correct the problem of your computer not completely booting up or not booting up at all.
If your computer will not boot-up at all, hopefully you have made a good emergency boot disk. You can always make a windows startup disk by creating one from another computer running Windows 98 or Me.Perform the following if your computer won't Boot-Up At All.
FIRST......Put your boot floppy disk in the floppy drive and turn on the PC.On some computers, you may have to access the bios and select the Boot priority to your A: drive.
Save any changes and select "Start computer without CDROM support" and press Enter.Once you are at the A prompt, type dir c: and press enter.
If your programs and other files are present, try restoring your system Registry by following the steps below. This may repair Windows, the Config. Sys and autoexec.bat files to where the PC may boot up normally. When the files are present, its a good indication of a good hard drive.
SECOND......To correct the problem of your computer not booting up,type in "fdisk /mbr" and press Enter to restore your master boot record.Type "Scandisk C:" to check the hard drive for errors that have occurred. You can also type "Sys C:" to hopefully restore files needed to boot up your computer.
THIRD......If the above procedures fail to repair your computer, you can repeat the first part of step one above and select "Start computer With CDROM Support" re-install Windows.
Making A Windows XP Bootable Floppy
Windows XP users should create a boot disk now by placing a formatted blank diskette in the A: drive, open Windows Explorer to the C:,select Tools,Folder Options ,show Hidden files and and folders, then View Tab.
Now you uncheck "Hide Protected Operating System Files (recommended). You will see a warning and click Yes and click OK.Copy the files ntldr,ntdetect.com and boot.ini onto the disk.Remove the disk and label it the Windows XP Boot Disk.
After making your boot disk, recheck "Hide protected operating system files and folders (recommended)" in the Folder Options dialog box.
To use the disk when Windows XP won't boot, place the disk in the drive, and then re-boot,the computer, Windows simply bypass the basic boot files on the hard drive and continue to boot up.
If The PC Won't Boot Pass Windows
FIRST......If your Operating System is Windows Millennium, turn on the computer and immediately press and hold down the CTRL key.Once the startup options appear, release the CTRL key. Select Safe Mode and press Enter. You are now in Windows limited version. If you know what caused your computer not to boot, you can now either change or delete that program.
SECOND....Repair your Registry by selecting Start,Run and typing "scanregw /fix" and press enter. This will fix any damage done to the Registry. You can also restore your registry which replaces your current registry with an earlier copy that was backed up by your computer.Click on Start,Run and type "scanregw /restore and press Enter.
To repair your Windows 98 Registry, hold down the CTRL key as you start the PC and select "Command Prompt Only".Type "scanreg /fix" and press Enter and "scanreg/restore" to restore a previousely saved copy of the Registry.
If you have Windows XP,press F8 after rebooting the PC should Windows freeze while booting up. You can select "Last Known Good Configuration" after rebooting to allow the computer to boot the last backed up files. And you can choose "Safe Mode" to remove any files you know caused the operating system to hang up.

WiFi Access Point
The field of communication is the fastest growing field in science and technology. The advancement in wireless communication was started in 1901 with development of wireless telegraph using Morse code. Wireless networks have many uses, people on the road now can send messages, data, mail, files etc from anywhere in the world. With advancement in the internet technology in the 1980's there is an ever increasing interest in wireless networking.
A network is a group of connected communicating devices such as computer. An internet is a collaboration of more than hundreds of thousands interconnected networks. Private individuals as well as various organizations such as government agencies, schools, research facilities, corporations and libraries in more than 100 countries use the internet.
The internet has revolutionized many aspects of our daily lives. It has affected the way we do business as well as the way we spend our leisure time. Count the ways you've used the internet recently. Perhaps you've sent electronic mail (e-mail) to a business associate, paid a utility bill, read newspaper from a distant city, or looked up a local movie schedule- all by using the internet. Or maybe you researched a medical topic, booked a hotel reservation, chatted with a fellow Trekkie, or comparison-shopped for car. The internet is a communication system that has brought a wealth of information you or fingertips and organized it for our use. A new technology known as wifi which stands for wireless fidelity was developed which enables the users to transmit data at a fast rate. The whole concept of wifi is based on access points.
Access points.
An access point can be thought as a hardware device or a software which establishes a wireless communication. this access point gets connected to wired local area network such as DSL, cables. Any two systems which are wifi enabled can thus connect without the need of physical connection. It improves the mobility if the nodes.
The access point also allows the user to have a faster connection by providing better bandwidth. Now it is possible for a user to watch movies, download software and play multiplayer games all at the same time, this is all made possible by wifi connection which provides a superior bandwidth over existing networks.
In order to utilize a wifi network to its maximum we should properly understand the basics of it. We should understand the meaning of access points and should know how to install and implement them. As there are numerous benefits of these wifi networks,

Dog and Puppy Obedience Training More dog training Tips
Puppy obedience training and older dog obedience training use a lot of common sense, some understanding of dog pack behavior, and a few simple techniques. I begin with a reminder to you all one of the puppy training tips that I have found to help immensely. Be sure you walk for a few minutes with your dog on a proper heel. Starting him off in the follower position with you in the lead makes it a lot easier on you, and it gets you both in the mode to respect you as the Pack Leader.
With that done, here is a simple way to make your dog familiar with the commands "sit" and "down." Tell the dog "Good sit" as he sits by you looking for affection, and "Good down" when he is lying at your feet after you have had a long day. If he does not seem to understand when you ask him to lie down, push his rear down and work his front paws down. (Obviously, he starts in the sit posture when you do this.)
Command an action from the dog with your hands (or simultaneously with hands and voice). It is easy for him to watch them, and using your hands for direction causes him to respect them. Also, take time to touch and handle all parts of your dog's body often to avoid fear at the vet or any time he needs to be checked over.
To teach your dog to stay, bring him to one spot and tell him to sit. Then say "Stay" and step back a little. Go forward three steps, then five, then ten.
Mix up the amount of steps so the dog cannot predict what you are going to do. If the dog can guess what you will do, he may cheat.
Sit, move forward two steps, and sit again. If the dog cheats or does not stay when you say to, you must take him back to the original spot and start over. If you do not fix the mistakes immediately, you are likely to have a dog that will cheat way too often and not listen to you at all.
dog training is really not hard. It simply is a matter of nailing down a few key points. Here are some more dog training and puppy training tips:
Your dog will not be unhappy with you for telling him what to do. On the contrary, he will be angry and frustrated if you don't!
Always be consistent and follow through in the simplest of things. The little things go a long way. The little things are also remembered.
Do not take it out on your dog if you have had a bad day. It will not help, and it is not his fault. It is better to skip it if you are really ticked.
Always introduce a new command in stages -- one step at a time. Let each step be understood and assimilated before adding more. You want to lead and instruct your pet, not confuse and frustrate him.
If you are having difficulty implementing these dog obedience training steps with any modicum of success, then there may be other dog behavior issues - physical or psychological - that underlie the problem. Ask a dog behaviorist for help. Not just any dog trainer will do. You need someone who will help you understand if it is you, the dog, or both. I know better than to buy the popular myth that "a bad dog is the sign of a bad owner."

Adjustable Air Beds
If you want to get a good night's sleep, you need to get a good bed. This usually means one that has a mattress that is not too soft or too hard, but is just right for your individual comfort level. Unfortunately, many of us simply get used to the beds we are sleeping on and fail to realize that our mattresses are no longer comfortable or capable of providing us with the support we need.
Of course, there are those of us that are all too aware of the damage our current mattresses are doing to us. However, you might be reluctant to go out and purchase a new one, because you consider it much too expensive. An adjustable air bed might just be the solution to both issues.
Supported by Air Over time, the springs in traditional mattress begin to wear out. As a result, they cease to provide you with the support you need. In contrast, adjustable air beds are held up by chambers filled with air and therefore they tend to last much longer.
To obtain the support and comfort level you desire, you simply fill the adjustable air bed with the appropriate quantity of air...

Avoid Getting Sued For Playing music For Your Business
If you are a business owner or manager and are currently playing music in your venues or considering implementing music on hold, you need to be aware that the music you use must be licensed, or it will be considered illegal use of copyrighted music. If caught, you could be facing steep fines or possible legal action. The music industry is coming down hard on businesses that are unaware of or disregard proper licensing of copyrighted music, as is evident by a recent series of crackdowns on over two dozen venues in Seattle who failed to pay royalties on music they were playing.
(ASCAP) The American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers, says that these venues have been performing copyrighted music without permission. ASCAP is now actively going after local businesses that have not been paying to use copyrighted music. According to their web site any music that is played outside a direct circle of family and friends is considered a public performance; this includes restaurants playing background music or commonly known as in-store music, DJs and music on hold over phone lines.
Fortunately, if you are unwilling or unable to pay expensive music licensing fees but still would like to play music in your venues or implement music on hold, there is a less expensive alternative, Royalty Free music. Unlike most music licenses, royalty free music only requires a typically low one time fee, and the purchaser is then free to use the music as often and in as many different ways as they like. The majority of music licenses stipulate how the music is to be used, and charge additional fees accordingly. If youre looking for music you can use without being restricted by fussy contracts, you should consider royalty free music.
If youre interested in royalty free music for your music on hold or venues, but are hesitant about the quality and believe popular music is the only way to engage customers you can relax. In addition to being legal and affordable, royalty free music from reputable libraries can be as appealing as any music heard on the radio today. With cutting-edge technology and compositions by talented professional musicians, the quality of royalty free music is on par with popular commercial music.
Because of the rising number of lawsuits being filed by the music industry against those who continue to implement music illegally, and the high cost of synchronization or needledrop licenses, royalty free music is becoming increasingly popular. Its well worth the low fee, particularly if it keeps pricy lawsuits at bay plus it is easy to obtain. music copyright laws are becoming increasingly more strict and complicated, and it is up to you to keep abreast of and act within these parameters. Pleading ignorance seems to be an unacceptable excuse with performance rights organizations like ASCAP and BMI. If you want to play music and not run afoul of the law seriously consider royalty free music.
One good source for royalty free music with clean and simple licensing terms is Opuzz Royalty Free music Library, one of the larger independent providers of quality royalty free music.

When Do You Need A Waterbed Pump?
Waterbeds are great. In winter they can keep you warm, in summer the water can have a cooling effect. A Waterbed can help lower your blood pressure and improve circulation, can reduce eczema, allergies and asthma and for the bed-ridden can reduce the development of bed sores. Yet if you dont properly maintain your water bed you can quickly run into problems. If you dont drain the water from the bed from time to time, you can expect algae to grow within the water in the bed, it will start excreting foul-smelling odor over time if left unattended. How gross is that! At this point you need a waterbed pump.
There are a several types of waterbed pump available, the most effective is the electric pump. It can be such a handy tool as it not only drains water beds but other liquid-filled items as well such as hot tubs, boats, aquariums, spas, bird baths, and fountains, to name a few. It is usually characterized as a self-priming water pump. A highly effective waterbed pump can pump up to a maximum of 360 gallons of water every hour. It may also include a puddle scoop attached to the pump so it can also drain water found in flat surfaces, such as the safety liner of the water bed. You may think that a pump is a very bulky waterbed accessory. It is not. In fact modern pumps are often lightweight and portable, especially when equipped with a strong stainless steel handle. Moreover, it can work with effortless priming. It may not be advisable to use with liquids other then water.
Waterbed pumps can also be useful when youre moving the bed to a different room, position or even a new house. It is quite risky to try to move a bed filled with heavy water, right? So get a pump! Fortunately, there are a number of places you can find a suitable pump. You can look to purchase a pump online or locally. You may be able to rent a pump for a certain number of hours (or days) for a certain fee from tool or equipment hirer in your local area. Or you may find that a local pool contractor/cleaner/maintainer can provide a service for you.
If you buy your own waterbed pump, or hire a pump to change your water for hygiene reasons or just to move the bed, you must take some basic precautions when using the pump. First, to avoid any untoward accident, unplug the water heater and remove the seal and cap from the mattress. You should also remove the extra air circulating in the mattress by sliding your forearm from beds head to the fill hole to evacuate excess air. Then connect a special reinforced hose, which prevents the mattress from collapsing during suction. A water hose is then connected to the drain or pump outlet and start draining. It usually takes around 30 to 45 minutes to complete this process with a standard double bed, yet all throughout the operation you must be on site so you can monitor progress and quickly stop the operation if necessary. When you hear the pump changing sounds or theres no more water flowing, stop draining, and immediately re-turn the cap and seal to maintain vacuum.

Hugger ceiling fans - A Different Option
The technological advances in the past few years, is changing the products we use almost daily. One such advance has been extending the life of major consumer goods. No one wants to pay high prices for something that you could only expect to last for a few years. Products claiming durability and stability as well as comfort give consumers more of a choice in the goods they buy.
You may be asking yourself just what a hugger ceiling fan is. It is different from other kinds of ceiling fans because the hugger ceiling fan is set high up and close to the ceiling. The blades of the hugger fan are closer to the ceiling which allows those who previously thought a ceiling fan wouldnt fit in a particular room or area because of the low set ceilings, can now avail themselves of all the cooling benefits as well as great savings on their yearly energy bills.
The convenience of a hugger fan is such that no matter how high or how low a ceiling is, a hugger ceiling fan will work equally well in either situation. There are some disadvantages to installing a hugger ceiling fan. Oftentimes the blades of a hugger ceiling fan will be too close to the ceiling and this can impede airflow. They are also said to be less efficient and not as effective as fans that are not set so high.
Manufacturers of the hugger ceiling fan often advise that there is at least eight feet from ceiling to floor. It is further advised that you should have at least seven inches between the blades and the ceiling. You can get around this by installing your hugger ceiling fan over furniture such as beds or couches instead of installing them in an area where people frequently will pass under the hugger ceiling fan.
If you have low ceilings and want to enjoy the benefits of a ceiling fan, then a hugger ceiling fan may be just what you were looking for. You can find plenty of styles and designs of hugger ceiling fan that will perfectly enhance the look of your room and greatly improve comfort levels as well.

Choosing a Presentation Remote Control
If you deliver electronic presentations using PowerPoint or other programs, you can manually move forward to the next slide with the keyboard or the mouse. One way, however, to deliver more effective presentations that improve your connection to your audience is to add a remote control to your presentation tools. What features should you look for when selecting a remote control?
Remote Features
Many projectors come standard with a remote but features vary and may not always be easy to use. A better choice is to buy your own personal presentation remote control. When evaluating a remote, look for these features and decide what is important to you:
- Ergonomic and easily fits in your hand. Keep in mind that you might be using the remote for an hour or an entire day. Plus, a smaller remote will usually have fewer and more accessible buttons, fits in your pocket, and is great for travel.
- Simple to use. In most cases, a smaller, ergonomic remote is easy to use but test it before buying. One of my friends loves her small remote which is only about the size of a matchbook. The tradeoff is she needs to press 2 buttons together to make the screen go black, a feature that does not always work. I was reminded of the importance of an easy to use remote recently when I watched an excellent presenter pull out a huge remote that looked a price scanner gun from Home Depot. As he fumbled with a large panel of buttons, the remote dropped to the floor and broke open with batteries flying across the stage.
- Transmit distance. Remotes operate with three different technologies: RF (wireless radio frequency), IR (infrared), and bluetooth. A huge drawback with IR remotes is that you need to point the mouse directly at the receiver for it to work. bluetooth remotes use the latest technology but currently have a maximum range of about 30' while many RF remotes have a range of 50 to 100 feet. With some remotes, you can have your back to the laptop and move to the middle of an audience. What do you need for your presentations?
- Built-in mouse. Some presenters will sacrifice a bit in size to get a built-in mouse, usually a small button like you see on some laptops. The Logitech Cordless Presenter, for example, combines a full-size mouse and remote with a 30' range and is priced under $200. Other remotes have a track ball or a touch pad. I prefer a separate wireless mouse that I use for portions of my presentations. I find a built-in mouse to be too awkward but it might be great for your purposes.
- Visible laser pointer. If you would like a built-in laser pointer, make sure to test it for visibility and practice moving it slowly. Some of the pointers have such a small laser dot that it does not show well on screen. Would an animation be a better way to highlight parts of a slide or a process?
When evaluating features, it is still not that common to find a wide range of remotes at your local computer store or office supply outlet, and so, your best option is to find someone who has a remote and try it out. My favorite is the RemotePoint Navigator from Interlink Electronics which is easy to use, fits comfortably in my hand, and gives me up to 50' of movement from my laptop. Another top model by the same company is the RemotePoint Presenter, with up to 100' of movement, a mouse button, and 32 MB of storage for your presentation; it is priced at about $150. The Phaser Mouse from IOGear is a budget-minded model for as little as $60.
There are many other models and brands to consider. Personally, I do not like remotes loaded with tons of features that you might not need; these remotes are typically bigger or more complicated to use. Remember, you should be using a remote so that you do not call attention to the technology and your audience can focus on your content.
Practicing with a Remote Control
After you buy a remote, practice with it before you use it. Do not just try it at your desk, you need to also setup your laptop and remote and actually run through your presentation. The first time I did this, the screen kept going black or I would accidentally advance to the next slide. The problem wasn't with the remote. The problem was that I was holding my presentation handout in the same hand and accidentally hitting a remote button through the handout. An easy adjustment but not obvious if my only rehearsal was in my office. I personally like to choreograph my slide actions into my presentation notes to avoiding looking back at the projection screen to check my location. Or, setup your laptop in the meeting room so you can glance at the screen and still keep the connection with your audience.
Practicing with your remote should be a built-in part of your presentation rehearsal to avoid distracting your audience and accomplishing the goal of communicating your message.
Bonus Tips: Always bring extra batteries; many speakers change out batteries for every presentation. To protect your investment, label the remote or put several business cards in the carrying case in the event that your remote is misplaced.
